Can a wobbly wifi router cause a cable modem to indicate an error?

Can a defective wireless router cause the cable modem to indicate an error? I'm asking, because we had many 2 to 3 minutes long outages over the last days. This morning, after the n-th restart of the equipment, I disconnected the wifi router and used a network cable to connect my laptop directly to the cable modem. So far no outage. This leaves two possible explanations: (1) The last of many restarts made the outages go away. (2) The wifi router is defective in a way that causes the cable modem to indicate an outage. ISP: Comcast Xfinity Bandwidth: 60/5 Cable modem: Arris CM820A Wifi router: Linksys WRT54GL City: Seattle, WA
