I am on PTD/Service electric in PA, and my recent upgrade to 1g/40m speed has not been great so I am looking for some advice.
The provider used an Arris DOCIS 3.0 3200 modem which would only achieve download speeds of 300 or so from all of the test sites and with test file downloads. My signal level and SNR is perfect and there are almost no corrected or uncorrected errors. We have one of the cleanest signals the tech rep has seen (and he is a friend, so he isn't b.s.ing me.) All 32 channels are showing the same good signal, and the provider verified we are locked on to all 32 channels. But no matter what, they can't get above 300 even though everything on their end is configured correctly and the signal is good.
So today I purchased an Arris DOCSIS 3.1 Sb8200 just to see if a more robust modem would improve anything. And it did..a little. I consistently get about 10% higher speeds with the new modem.
note...all tests were performed hardwired with a cat6 cable wired directly into the modem. I did try different cables and different computers, but all have the same results. Computer is an i9, 32gb ram, intel 1000 nic card. Drivers are all updated.
Upload is consistent at the rated speed of 40m.
no matter what we try, we top out at 300 or so on the 3200 and 350ish on the 8200. The provider is kind of new to 1g service, so they really don't know what to do next.
Any suggestions?
thanks.
