SB6141/6121 "Reset All defaults"

I use the SB6141 with my RCN connection. There is a "Reset All Defaults" setting on the Configuration page. I wanted to reset the modem to defaults, so I pressed the button and it said it can take up 30 minutes, i said ok. I am sitting here and its not doing anything? Is this normal? Am I supposed to be doing this in conjunction with "Restart Cable Modem" to make sure this works? Sorry not too familiar with Motorola surfboards so I may be asking a newbie question. I had the SB6121 for a while but the original firmware was causing it to boot 3 times before it finally connected. Similarly, reset modem to defaults was doing the same thing there (nothing). Also, is there a way i can update the firmware on the SB6121 (not the SB6141) to the latest one? (the SB6141 is uptodate with the SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.8-SCM01-NOSH firmware). RCN won't push a firmware update on this modem for their life. Its outdated and I'm thinking the reason why it takes forever to hold on to the cable signal is because of the outdated firmware it runs. Maybe i can send it to my cousin who has Comcast so during the provisioning that they can upgrade the firmware on it and then he can send it back to me. Thanks. -- "Look at me, I'm Dr. Zoidberg, homeowner."

SB6141 Firmware Update?

Anyone know what the latest and greatest firmware on the SB6141 is? I've got one for Time Warner Cable and they've provisioned it fine. I'm getting random connection drops, and they're claiming there is nothing wrong on their side. I was thinking that a firmware update might be in order, since mine is from Aug of 2011, but TWC won't push anything to customer owned equipment. Here's my Modem Info: Model Name: SB6141 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.3-SCM03-NOSH Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12. Hardware Version: 7.0 Firmware Build Time: Aug 18 2011 10:27:53 Anyone know if the modem is consumer flashable and if so, where I can grab a more recent version?

My new Motorola 3360 has a factory setting to time out after 20 minutes of no activity . I want to change that to allow access always. I see where to do that - my network has password protection . Any thing I should be concerned about if I change the setting? :hmm:

Surfboard SB5101u Dropping Connection

My SB5101u looses its connection every 30 minutes or so. This has been going on for a few months. I first thought it was the router, but have since tracked it down to the modem. The modem itself was purchased this year when I moved to my new apartment. The problems have occurred throughout. sb6121 losing partial connection

Hi, I have a pretty new sb6121 and it worked fine for about a month before it started having problems. Now, every day it has been losing partial connection to the internet. At about ~8 pm it will lose ability to connect to websites that I haven't accessed before it loses partial connection. For example, if I don't go to yahoo before it loses partial connection, I won't be able to get to yahoo. The websites I've already visited behave normally with unchanged speeds, but any new connections will just behave like I don't have internet. The only way to fix it is to power off the modem and power it back on. Soft reboot from the IP doesn't seem to do anything. If it matters, I turn the modem off with a power switch when I don't use it. Motorola Mod. SGB6580

My Printer will not communicate with my computer using the wireless system. Was set up and working fine for several years. I ran A wireless network test and the results are that the passcode does not match the wireless router setting and advised me to run the setup wizard and to enter my wireless network WPA security code. When I do this using the WPA on the bottom of my modem I get a message saying that the number is incorrect. When I first set this system up several years ago I may have changed the security code and do not have any idea what it is. Is it possible to reset this some way? Could I un-install the software from my computer and then run the software again?Would this allow me to use the default code on the modem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Moto SBG6580 on TWC reboots when PCs connect to VPN servers.

Hello Friends: I signed up for a HideMyA**.Com (HMA) Pro VPN/Proxy account today (I'm new to HMA altogether, coming over from BTguard). I have Linux PCs (Fedora 18 / 64 bit) and so I configured them to work with HMA services via OpenVPN & NetworkManager. Now, I can *seemingly* connect to HMA servers using UDP or TCP modes without a problem. Output of the following commands confirm this for me:    netstat -rn    ifconfig -a    cat /etc/resolv.conf    whataMyIP.org But connecting is one thing. Trying to transfer data once connected, is another. MY PROBLEM: The moment I try to start transferring data, ANY DATA -- say, downloading a Fedora DVD ISO image, or just running SpeedTest.net -- my Cable Modem Router (Motorola SBG6580) immediately reboots (almost like the internal O/S panics). This happens over UDP and TCP connections to HMA servers, and over a variety of HMA servers. It's easily reproducible. The make and model of the router is: Motorola SBG6580 The Time Warner provided firmware on it is: SBG6580-3.5.8.2-GA-01-488-01-NOSH I don't know what the issue is. In the "Advanced" section, I did try enabling both:         Ipsec PassThrough         PPTP PassThrough Sadly, that did not correct my issue... Once I VPN connected and tried to download data again, the modem again immediately rebooted. When I disconnect my O/S from HMA VPN servers, I can freely download data with no modem issues. Note: This never happened with the BTguard service, however it's been a while since I used that, so it's not necessary the fault of HMA ... for example, it could be firmware related. It's strange. I'm simply connecting to OpenVPN servers (i.e. a VPN and Proxy connection) from my PCs and the modem reboots as soon as I try to download something. Has anyone seen this, and know what the work around is? What is the best way to troubleshoot this? Thank you in advance!

Has anyone had any success getting a Wii connected wirelessly with the 6580? All my other devices connect with no problems except the Wii. It will not connect at all, finds SSID when I scan but I always get an error that the wrong password was entered. I have tried entering settings manually and changing channels on router.

Firmware file NEEDED: nta773r7_attse.bin nta773r7_attse.zip netopia2210_773r7_attse.zip My modem router died and I'm back to using this old Motorola Netopia 2210-02 modem again. I need to telnet into configure it but can't because of my current firmware version. Would someone please help or have somebody to locate and post a link to this please for me? ...I can't find the CD that came with it because I moved my residence a while back. I'm asking on this forum because of posts to an old forum a couple of years back on this site which addressed this very issue. I tried the links I found there but none were still working. Thanks for helping if you can.

My modems been working the past 2 years until yesterday. Whenever I plug it in to get it to try to work, th modem is only blinking on "recieve" blinking blue. I go into cable modem IP, everything says "not started" and status says offline in red. Is the modem done? I called the not-so-helpful comcast agents, and they say they are not seeing any signal when its plugged in. But when I unplug it, they see the signal. what the hell? Did my modem die at the age of 2 years? It doesn't connect at all. Could it be the line? Its been fine until yesterday. They also verified and told me to tell them the MACID. I know with a normal modem, even if it needs provisioning, itll still take me to the activation screen. But right now, I am in the dead. No recieve downstream signal at all when plugged in, resetted multiple times. Please help!!!

I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Gateway. I bought it used online. The password was changed from the default username "admin" and default password "motorola". Is there anyway to recover the password or reset to factory default? I have tried pressing and holding the reset button on the back of the modem for 45 seconds but the password doesn't reset when I do that. Any ideas?

Hey - so I have 2 Moto moca DVRS one 1 acct & another moto moca dvr on another account. They are all hooked up inside the house w/ no moca filters. How do I get all 3 boxes to talk to each other? shouldn't it work since they are on the same moca network. Isn't that the reason the of putting the moca filter outside so it doesn't feed back onto the whole neighborhood?

After using a Motorola SBG6580 for over a year now with around 6 static IP's registered and reserved, BASIC | DHCP no longer displays these reserved IP's. I recently had to reset factory defaults on a NAS device. I need to delete this previous reserved IP so that I can do a new assignment. Without seeing these reserved entries, I am unable to SELECT and DELETE the entry. ======================================================= On another note, when it comes to SELECTING and DELETING, it never deletes the assignment that I SELECT. This has worked this way from day one. I have entered an Email question to ARRIS support with no reply. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Constant Disconnects Since Getting New Modem

I had a Motorola 2210 from AT&T, used it for years. Well the same model anyway. I had to replace the modem once a year because it would burn out from getting too hot. This last one got too hot, and started my new problem. I was given a westhell modem by a friend until I could buy a new motorola 2210, because that's my absolute favorite. I tried to use the westhell with my network which is 2 linksys DDWRT routers. The modem has always been the "router" while the linksys 54G's were access points. It worked perfectly, seemlessly like I wanted. Until I tried using the westhell in the same fashion. It was a completely different interface, and would "see" and "talk to" both linksys routers, but absolutely refused to dish out Internet to anything wireless. There was no way of changing any settings like I could in my previous modem either. So, I just bought another Motorola thinking that it would be the same thing as the previous one and all my headaches would be over. I even had a friend mod it and put a tiny little fan in there so it wouldn't overheat anymore. I connected it, and it had the SAME dang firmware that the westhell had!! So I used a tutorial on connecting the stupid thing in bridge mode with my linksys routers. It somewhat works I guess, the problem is that it drops Internet 4-5 times a day and in order to get it back, I have to power cycle the router. Please don't say it's a problem with the linksys because I have tried with both lynksis routers as well with a netgear, still no luck. It is as if the modem is going in to idle when not using a direct connection. But everything I do on a daily basis is wireless. The modem and home base router is in a building behind my house, and having to go back there 5 times a day to power cycle the router is old and annoying. I have done all I can do inside the router itself to prevent the connection from timing out. I have set the base linksys to automatically reboot daily, enabled watchdog in order to reboot and bring the connection back up if 8.8.8.8 can't be pinged once an hour. The secondary router is set to reboot the first if IT can't be pinged. Still, I have to power cycle the home base router 5 times a day because the connection goes idle and drops. I'm asking if there is anything else I can do to solve this issue. But, I am also asking if anyone knows how I can flash this modem with the other software, you know, the one that allowed me to CONTROL stuff. I really dislike this firmware! Does anyone know where/how to look for one with the firmware before the current one? The update was around 2012 I think because the last one I bought had the "right" firmware on it and I bought that in January of 2012 from Walmart. They don't have modems anymore, I checked. I wouldn't mind buying another one on eBay, but I need to be sure it has the correct firmware. Does anyone know the specs I would look for? Or does anyone have the previous firmware for me to flash it? I'm really about ready to burn it all! It is so annoying to try to connect to take a test, with 1 hour until it has to be submitted, only to have to find my keys, run to the building, pull the power on the router, plug back up, then run back to the house to start my test :/

Can't get SB6121 to work well with Mediacom

I've had the SB6121 for a few months now. At first it seemed great, then I started getting random disconnects. Signal levels all look good. I've since upgraded my Mediacom account to 50/5 and the modem will not bond to more than one channel. I get more like 30/5 and still random disconnects. They tried pushing through firmware, but it won't accept it. Anyone have these type of problems??
