If you own a ARRIS modem change the default WIFI passwords your network is vulnerable to be hacked in under 30 seconds.. with the default security password since it's easily guessed.
only applies to modems with built in WiFi access points..
it also opens your network to unauthorized use and snooping by the local cable techs.

is docsis 3 setup?
i just had my modem switched out today due to needing a telephone line. First I am not happy they gave me a 2-3 year old modem i notice right away second i get in to the thing and looks like this. now if i was reading this right it looks like they didnt set me up docsis 3 but docsis 2 if you can give me some inside that would be great. If it is 2 I am going to call and complain with the amount of cash they charge.

This happens several times a day and is also sometimes accompanied by a change of the upstream channel used.
Let me add my provider (Atlantic Broadband), does not have upstream channel bonding yet for some strange reason, so when I say it's "hopping" upstream channels sometimes it's doing just that. It will read "Channel ID 1" and then an hour later it might read "Channel ID 2".
They recently upgraded from 8 to 16 channels on the downstream. And it seems this problem started occurring the same week I noticed the extra downstream channels on my status page.
Oh, and of course my signal levels are all fine... 40+ SNRs and power levels between 0 and -7.
As usual they are trying to blame my modem.
I'm going to install smokeping and MRTG to try to track the problem as closely as possible.
Their tech support wants me to swap out my modem and try one of theirs, but I'm skeptical it's my modem. Someone with more experience with these modems, how likely is it that it is a problem with my modem?

TG1670/1672 modem getting public IP in bridge mode
AFAIK there is no way to stop the modem even in bridge mode to get a public IPv4/IPv6/IPv6 prefix.
And what is listening on 9081/tcp of the public IPv4 address? A syn flood against this port can severely degrade the modem's performance even in bridge mode.

SBG6580 vs SBG6782AC vs SBG6900AC
I recently switched from Verizon to BrightHouse(BH). I have internet-only 100/10 plan.
BH provided me with a modem and am using my existing Verizon router(Actiontec - M1424WR).
Since BH is charging me a monthly modem rental fee - am inclined to purchase a modem cum router combo model and my reviews have led me to ARRIS Surfboard series.
Any thoughts on SBG6580 vs SBG6782AC vs SBG6900AC ?
It's highly unlikely that I will sign up for a higher speed plan(although BH offers 200mpbs speed). Given that, should I buy SBG6580 or to future proof buy SBG6782?

View ConfigFile and other stuff on my modem
I bought an Arris SB6190 and I'm wondering how I can view the config file on the modem. Is this possible? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, I viewed the status and other info available at the UI, 192.168.100.1 but it's not much. Is there more data/info available to view and if so, how?

I bought the SB6183 yesterday and have buyer's remorse already! Should I return it in exchange for the SB6190 to take advantage of docsis 3.1? What are the considerations?

Should I be concerned about existing log events in brand new SB6183?
I recently purchased a new SB6183, software version D30CM-OSPREY-1.5.2.3-GA-01-NOSH, which set up uneventfully with my Comcast service and has seemed to work fine for the couple weeks I've had it. There was nothing about the modem or its packaging to suggest that it was a returned/refurbished/re-packaged item.
The event log, however, had many pre-existing entries....most had no time/date stamp ("Time Not Established"), but there are a number from last October, and all the ones in question existed when I installed it on 5/31. I can post the entire log, if it would be helpful, but here are a few examples of the entries in question:

DHCP problems with Motorola SurfBoard WiFi modems and DISH/DirecTV equipment
I posted this on another forum a while back, but I thought I might get a more authoritative answer here...
In recent years, I've spoken with multiple people experiencing this with multiple different models of Motorola WiFi modems. If I recall, it has affected SBG941, SBG6580, and (most recently) SBG6782-AC modems.
Basically, it seems like DHCP goes absolutely haywire when Hopper/Joey/Genie devices are in-use. I suspect it's when they have an Ethernet-MoCA bridge (not really sure if these devices use standard MoCA or some proprietary implementation). In this most recent case, the modem *does* have built-in MoCA capability, but I'm fairly certain I have observed this with modem models that have no built-in MoCA features. MoCA is still enabled in the modem I'm currently looking at. I didn't change anything yet because my past experiences have led me to believe that this problem is unrelated to MoCA.
In the modem's list of DHCP clients, the satellite TV equipment keeps changing IP addresses constantly. You could refresh the list minutes or seconds later and see different IP addresses. They frequently show IP addresses with very high numbers when compared to the other DHCP clients.
I captured the list just a few minutes apart and saw the IP addresses change, but I also noticed invalid lease expiration times (year: 1901?!) on the DISH Network equipment:

NOTE: A Joey device's IP address changed from .254 to .4 when I refreshed the list after only a minute or so.
I'm not sure whether the Motorola modems are to blame, or the satellite TV equipment. The only cases that have come to my attention are those with Motorola modems, but perhaps that's only because those models let me log-in remotely and view the list of DHCP clients. If it's a problem with the way Motorola handles NAT/DHCP, then it has persisted across multiple models for many years.
I might suggest that this owner disable MoCA in the modem. I doubt the satellite TV equipment depends on MoCA being enabled in the modem (they usually have their own device bridging wired Ethernet to the coaxial TV lines). I still don't think disabling MoCA will help. The modem doesn't list any associated MoCA nodes/clients. If there are no other suggestions, I will just recommend that this person get a non-WiFi cable modem with a separate wireless router. Since it has 802.11ac wireless, it would be a shame to disable the WiFi in this one and enable bridge mode. I *think* some of the satellite TV equipment is using WiFi, but the DHCP table from the Motorola doesn't list interfaces.
I neglected to mention that the "DHCP Clients" table in Motorola WiFi modems will sometimes list detected devices that are *not* DHCP clients. I've seen some listed as "static" when a device is actually still clinging to an an IP address it got via DHCP before the modem was rebooted. The MoCA/coax devices usually do that because they don't sense link being lost/restored and don't renew their IP addresses automatically, which can result in conflicts.

SB6190 forever to load DNS or fails
Hello all, I looked through the other post and didn't see an answer to issue like mine. I switched from the SB6141 to the SB6190 and it worked great at first (the SB6141 was always great) but when I got the firmware 9.1.93N it started taking forever to load any webpage (shows Resolving Host.. at bottom right/Chrome browser) and will usually fail to a message like this
This site cant be reached
www.newegg.coms server DNS address could not be found.
Search Google for newegg
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
then after another 10-20 second it may load on its own but sometimes the site needs to be reloaded several times before it loads all the objects, etc. I also use Ventrilo and when this is happening it will fail to resolve the hostname but will get to the server via the IP address right away. Tnot ahis can happen to any site I try, no matter if I have been there today or not. Also if for example on this site if I'm on a forum and go through right clicking links and opening them in new tabs they will either take forever to load or won't load at all ( problem before the firmware change or SB6141). I have multi computers and all get the same issue. I confirmed the modem as the source by going down to 1 PC then trying different new CAT 5, 6 and 7 cables. All same result. If I reboot the modem by pulling the power and waiting 30 seconds the issue will resolve but start again anywhere within 1 hour - 2 hours. I just had comcast put in a new coax outside months before with the SB6141 (it was a very old and damaged cable), the connection goes straight to my cable modem, I have no splitters, blocks, etc as I don't use cable service for anything else so it's a straight connection. I've also used a bobby pin to use the reset function on the back of the modem several times and it reloaded fine but issue comes back. I also went through and tried different browsers (Edge, Firefox) and all get same issue. Ping test also seem to be fine during the time this issue goes on. My levels on the SB6190 reflect the same I got on my SB6141. Speed test are also consistent. I thought I would post here for ideas/advice/etc before I even try Comcast as they tend to not provide the level of support I'm really after without some prodding.
I've included the Status screen from the modem as well if anyone wanted to see it in case I didn't notice a problem, these were taken at an Up time of 1 d: 8 h: 39 m. Thank you.

SB6190 has one channel with a lot of uncorrectables
Is this something with the modem or the ISP? It seems to be working fine, but it's just this one channel that will have a high number of uncorrectables errors. Is there something that needs to be done? Or even anything that can be done?

I spoke with an engineer at Arris regarding the issue. While it's been acknowledged that this is a problem, as of this time, I'm the only one who has reported the issue to them. My case is still open, but does not have much priority for being fixed at the moment. Some of you have commented about having similar issues - if this is the case, please take a look below and respond with your ping times, or, better yet, do that and call Arris support directly to open a case describing the problem.
As of this time, we know that the problem exists on the specific chipset used in both the SB6190 and DG2470 modem line. Anyone submitting results from either modem would be a great help. Beyond that, if this problem exists with other DOCSIS 3.0 modems, that would be great to know as well.

This is a request for assistance (or, more specifically, for output of a quick ping command). I'd like to compare results from my modems to others. Some additional details are at the tail-end of this post, but here's my request: I'd like to ask this of those of you who have either Arris model DG2470(A), or SB6190 to execute a 10-second ping against your modem from a hard-wired device (no wireless please) and report the results in a comment below.
To keep results similar, I'd ask that anyone willing to offer results use the following command, based on your OS:
For Windows-based machines:
batchping -n 10 192.168.100.1
... and, for *nix-based machines (including Mac, Linux, etc.):
bashping -c 100 -i 0.1 192.168.100.1
If you participate, please include the output of the ping command, as well as the model of modem, and firmware version if you can locate it (typically found somewhere through http://192.168.100.1/).
Note, the IP address of 192.168.100.1 is the management IP of your modem in bridged mode. I believe it works in NAT mode, so if someone with a DG2470 in NAT mode could confirm that would be awesome.

I've been working on an issue for a few weeks now that began when I upgraded to a higher speed with my ISP, which required me to upgrade modems to support the faster speed. There are a couple of posts under my name here if you care to look up the details, but I won't belabor the point. I'll just state the following:
The ping spikes / latency issues:
Occur on at least two hardware models; DG2470, and SB6190.
---> The DG2470 is owned by the ISP. The SB6190 I own (purchased new).
Present regardless of whether the modem is in bridged or NAT mode, for modems which support it.
Exists whether the coaxial cable is connected or not.
Exists across multiple ISPs (another user on this forum provided diagnostic data from his modem).
Extend into real-world connections, and are most evident in latency-sensitive applications (such as VoIP, online gaming, etc.)
For at least the SB6190, occur with the latest firmware available to me (9.1.93K).
As a quick point of clarification, the "issue" is both ping spikes, as well as a much higher-than-expected latency (direct connection pings should be sub-1ms, not 5ms - 10ms).
I also own a number of other cable modems, such as the SB6120 and SB6121, which do not exhibit these problems.

connected pc identification
I have an old SBG900 modem wireless router. I monitor my data usage daily to make sure I am not going to exceed my cap. I am very careful and aware of my usage in all possible ways. My provider had a interruption of their usage notification system over the 4th of July holiday and I am pretty sure that glitch ended up with my usage being listed as over double what I usually use now that it is back up. Should be about 20-25 but it is at 43 GB. It sounds like they are not going to do anything to admit this. There is nearly zero chance for anyone siphoning off my net wired, but just to make sure there isn't something funny with my w/less I am turning it off since I rarely even use it anyway. What I would like to do is view what devices may have been connected to my router recently in case. I can't figure out where to view that on the modem interface although I see some things that may be those. Does this modem support that and if so how do I view it and what dates/times is it going to show? Thanks.

Bonjour / Airprint
Hello!! Trying to find a modem that is compatible with Airprint. Arris chat was unable to assist and directed me to MSO. Wondering if you guys had any information on if Bonjour / Airprint has any kind of compatibility issues with the 1672 / 1682 / 1670 series gateway modems. When printer is connected to internal gateway it cannot be discovered by devices using airprint. Once we bridge the arris and add a third party router to the mix it is visible. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
