I need to expand my home internet coverage to my bedroom. I currenty use a cable modem supplied by my ISP. I have a Motorola Surfboard cable modem with wireless connectivity and I wondered if there was a way I could use this as a repeater to increase my home network range? Since it has a cable input I'm not sure how it would receive the signal. Or would it somehow pick up a signal from my Belkin wireless modem?

Basic question about SB6121
The SB6121 is pretty basic, and I was used to a fancier modem.
What I have found with mine is, if I go to http://192.168.100.1/, it does not ask me for any credentials, it displays some status pages, and I can find no settings that I can change.
In fact, unlike the manual I found online, there are no buttons on the Configuration page for "Reset All Defaults" or "Restart Cable Modem."
Is that all there is, or is there an interface I'm missing here?
Thanks much!

"Corrected" and "Uncorrectables"?
Attached is a screen shot I just took of my status page. Arris 6183. Do you see any issues? Why all these uncorrectables? I don't quite understand some of this modem info stuff yet. I also got the speed bump from 15/1 but it's only 27/6.
↧
↧
SB6190 has one channel with a lot of uncorrectables
Is this something with the modem or the ISP? It seems to be working fine, but it's just this one channel that will have a high number of uncorrectables errors. Is there something that needs to be done? Or even anything that can be done?

Arris SB6183 vs Motorola MB7420
Hi!
I wanted to share some research I found since I was looking for a new cable modem. You may be wondering what is the difference between the SB6183 and the MB7420. They are both 16X4 and both have a 2 year parts and labor warranty. So...how are they different? They should function almost exactly the same except it seems that the latest chipset in the SB6183 is a Broadcom BCM3383 which is an older chipset while the MB7420 has a newer Broadcom BCM3384 chipset. Actual usage may not differ noticeably but if you want the latest then get the Motorola MB7420.
I had read in another place that the earlier SB6183 got upgraded to a newer chipset (BCM3383) then it used to have and that resulted in a little better performance in the RF section so every little bit helps.
I also noticed that there is a very healthy competition going on between Texas Instruments and Broadcom in this field. Some of the other Arris SBxxxx use the TI chipset. Both the Broadcom and the TI chipsets seem very close in performance and longevity so just know that there have been more than one SB6183 released (the difference being the chipsets). The MB7420 is quite new so it may not have had more than one version released so far. It is unknown if the differences are marked by version numbers on the outside or not.
Best regards and best hunting!
EDIT: As of today the Motorola is $10.00 less at Newegg.

ARRIS SB6183 Black
Hello,
So I recently upgraded to Comcast's Blast! Internet Plan (150mbps).
Now, my current modem is the Arris SB6121, which only has 4x4 channels which doesn't get the full speed of the plan.
I was thinking about getting the SB6183 Black on Amazon. I have heard that the White versions are Retail, while the Black ones are ISP/OEM.
So considering this is on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ITIXYR0/), and the images show it says SurfBoard instead of TouchStone, is this a legit retail black version, or is the image Photoshopped?
I like the black version because it matches with everything on my desk, I don't want to get the white one as it will stick out and look ugly (Also, the lights on the White Ones are Crazy Bright)
Thanks!

So I had a post in another forum but not sure if its an internal issue or external to the house, and should I contact Cox about it. Here is my current Downstream. I have put terminators on all unused cable ports inside the house.
The modem has been up for 6 days right now.

A bug with most "Surfboard" modems?
I have a http://www.netduma.com router which has a very crazy market... Gamers. However it uses QOS to give gamers a better connection in busy households and it works well for that. Recently I purchased a SB6141 to replace my old and failing TM822G. After months and months of trying to figure out why sometimes devices in my house followed the QOS rules I set and sometimes they didn't, I narrowed it down to the SB6141. Today I switched back to the TM822G and all my problems went away. Is this a bug with most "Surfboard" modems?
It seems to do the same when I use my Asus RT-N56U and try to use QOS. Sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. For example, I could upload to YouTube on my wired PC with Chrome and my ping stays low as expected, but if I upload with Firefox my ping spikes and causes lag while gaming. If I do the same test with both routers on the TM822G I can upload and download without any major spikes in my ping while gaming. Which is exactly what is supposed to happen.

Abnormal Powering Up Behavior for Motorola Surfboard SBG6580?
Hello,
My first post here though I've been browsing these forums once in a while in the past.
So currently I have this strange issue with my Motorola Surfboard modem which I haven't used in a while and when I try to power it, it makes some kind of hissing (coil whine?) noise but then the intensity of the noise decreases over time from the start until after 15-20 minutes where the noise can be barely heard and eventually goes away. Not sure if something internally went bad or something else. Another symptom is that on the front panel of the modem with all of the LED status lights, when I plug the power into the modem, it first flashes all 4 lights (guessing as some power on self test) and then it shows partially lit amber light for the Wifi LED. I'm not exactly sure what that means or if that means there is not enough power going through or something else. It appears that when I connect an ethernet cable to the modem from my computer and then plug the power cord in, the modem appears to behave correctly where it does the power on self test with the 4 LEDs lighting up and then showing a green light for the power LED light (this behavior usually appears after I leave the modem plugged in for some time while it only shows some light coming from the Wifi LED). This behavior does not always work initially but after I leave both wires plugged in (ethernet and power) for some amount of time, then the amber light from the Wifi LED goes away and shows a normal green light from the Power LED status. Also, sometimes it does not power up sucessfully at all and stays at the stage where it only shows an amber light for the Wifi LED.

TM822A - Unable to reach 50Mbps down, seems like freqs aren't configured
Hello, this is my first post. I am in Ohio and my ISP is a service called Buckeye Broadband. They supply Arris modems, however a few years ago began charging a rental fee, so I bought a used modem on eBay, apparently living a previous life with Charter. I had been paying for 18 Mbps DS service and everything has been fine.
I recently moved and ordered 50 Mbps service. The technician came out and checked everything and we alerted the ISP of my customer-owned device, so they set it up. Everything is now running, however I am getting only at best 35 Mbps down.
Troubleshooting included different patch cables, different devices, eliminating my router, and removing in-line splitters. Same result. The ISP says the modem responds to them and isn't reporting an error. They also say that they don't send updates to the modems, such as adjusting frequencies - they purchase the modems ready to go and deliver to customers, so there's no change they're going to help update my modem.
I tried accessing the modem's web page, but it would not come up. So I instead telnet-ed into the modem and have been able to see various settings and try some things. These include:
Of the 8 channels available for downstream (two tuners, Freq 1-4 and 5-6) only one is configured, and that is 591 MHz. The rest are set to 0
Of the upstream bands, only 22.8 MHz is configured.
Firmware is 2012_08_03
LAN access to the http server is set to '0' which I assume means it is disabled, which might be why I can't see the pages.
I'm not sure how to start the http server so that I can configure the frequencies, or to do so from the telnet CLI, or if this is even the right path to take. Does anyone know if there are configuration changes I can make to the modem in order for it to bond more channels and operate at higher speeds?

Arris DG860 Firewall issues
Greetings,
I have an Arris DG860 cable modem connected to my router.
When I turn OFF the firewall on this device, the open ports on my router show as closed. When I turn the firewall back ON, the ports on the router show open. This seems backwards. Has anyone seen or experienced this with this or any model Modem?
Thanks in advance.

SB6190 - any limitations to port forwarding?
We've been using our Arris SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 modem since April with little (if any) problems, and yet, I've never yet been able to successfully achieve the proper port forwarding to our 'remote access security server' thru this modem and via our ASUS RT-N66R gigabit/wifi router. I don't believe I've ever had this much of an issue with virtually any other device or combination of devices, until now. It should be a simple port forwarding rule within the ASUS router, right? As I might understand it, the SB6190 is pretty much 'transparent' to external traffic types, passing the traffic thru the modem and delivering any/or all traffic on any port or protocol to the router, where the port forwarding rule then provides the 'path' to the static address of the 'server'... That is, as I understand this... So I'm a little boggled why this simply will not work. The SB6190 has no firewall, per se (as I understand it), and the RT-N66R router is configured for 'virtual server/port forwarding' to the correct static LAN address via the correct ports and protocols. But as yet I just cannot make this work. Anyone out there have any 'insider info' or suggestions on how I've messed this up for the past 4 months? I would certainly like to get my 'remote access' functional again...

Changing Default Modem Local IP 6183

Can the local IP of the 6183 be changed from 192.168.100.1?

Arris SB6121 Good Signal Levels but T4 Timeouts
My Modem Arris SB6141 has good signal levels:
(I think they are good based on the parameters I have read here)
Down (Range -8dbmV To -8dbmV)
Up (three channels in 54)
SNR (Four Channels in 31)
But it is having T4 Timeouts ("Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response - Retries exhausted;CM and ...Ranging Request Retries exhausted")
My Plan in Comcast is the Blast 75Down / 10 Up and I am getting Down 2Mbps and Up 4Mbps (Up is faster!!!)
Could you tell me what can I do to fix that problem?

Arris TG1682G bridge mode bug
Does anyone have info on whether or not this bug has been fixed somehow via firmware maybe? If you don't know what Im talking about it is that this router(when put into bridge mode) can only operate through one port(4 I think.) Anyway sometimes the modem would shut this port off yet staying in bridge mode rendering it useless, until you manually reset it.
Was hoping there is a fix for it.
Thanks.
